Advice for Juniors
Junior year may seem like the hardest grade you have encountered so far: physics is impossible, APUSH is never ending, and pre-cal never seems to make sense. But trust me, senior year is even more stressful. Here are some things I wish I did my junior year to help alleviate the stress I feel now.
On top of keeping up with your grades, practically the first thing you have to complete senior year are your college applications. Some of these applications include anywhere from three to five short answers questions, around 300 words each, on top of a 700 word main essay. Additionally, you have to display your entire high school career, from extracurriculars to volunteer activities and awards. Please do not wait till the last week to complete everything!
Although starting from the class of 2024, you cannot see your class rank until January of junior year, be sure to maintain your grades, especially through junior year. As people take 6-7 AP classes in ONE year, it is crucial to keep your GPA as high as possible - most advantageous to get 95+ on all classes. Being top six percent or even top ten percent is very beneficial, as it provides a safety net, a guaranteed future to almost every public university in Texas. These include prominent school such as UT Austin, Texas A&M, or even UTD.
Good luck on the remainder junior year and happy applying!
