Although debunked for centuries, flat earthers continue to be one of the most baseless and discredited modern myths.

Flat earthers believe that instead of being a globe or sphere, the Earth's shape is that of a plane or disk. In fact, it is also a modern myth that ancient civilization believed in a flat earth. By around 500 B.C., most ancient Greeks already believed that Earth was round, not flat. That was 2,520 years ago. It truly fascinates me why in this modern age, with all the technology and resources we have access to, there are still people that fall for and believe ideology like a flat earth and the movement remains stable in interest.

With the availability of social media and the internet, it has been even easier to spread disinformation to attract others unfounded ideas, such as that of a flat earth. With the addition of almost infinite evidence accumulated from public space explorations, the modern flat earth society has become somewhat of a conspiracy theory as well. not believing information provided by the government, media, or science.

Some other beliefs of the flat-earth conspiracy theory is that the Earth's gravity is an illusion. Instead of objects accelerating downward, the disc of Earth is accelerating UPWARDS, driven by a mysterious dark energy force. Another idea is that space simply does not exist, and the disc of Earth simply sits still. Ideas like these make me giggle to think about, but also worry me knowing individuals in our society, that can vote and participate, decide to disregard science and evidence and instead put their energy into believing myths from over 2,000 years ago..
